VIRTUAL EXECUTIVE FUNCTION CLASSES

Teaching Executive Functioning
If we know that boosting executive functioning skills can help reduce the barriers to success
for many students, then why don’t we spend time teaching these behaviors at a young age?

Unfortunately, with so much emphasis on academic performance and meeting IEP goals, for many non-traditional learners, executive functioning falls through the cracks. Most schools emphasize executive functioning as secondary skills, taught through repeated experience with academic-based projects. Rarely do schools dedicate time to a curriculum or directly teaching executive functioning behaviors.

Who are these executive functioning classes for?

These 1-hour classes were designed to fill the gaps for teens and young adults struggling with under-developed or delays in executive functioning skills. The classes offer a multi-faceted toolbox of evidence-based strategies and supports that can generate meaningful life changes.

If you or your learner could benefit from a booster or a complete executive functioning curriculum, the exercises in these classes can help you:

  • Identify and assess problem areas and pitfalls.
  • Learn about the different types of executive functioning skills.
  • Practice new strategies and behaviors to promote academic and vocational success.

In our work with students, we always emphasize individualized learning. The same course of action that works for one individual may not work for everyone. Learning new executive functioning skills should be personalized to build on each person’s strengths and motivations.

We start with a pre-assessment at the start of each skill. These short assessments take approximately 3-5 minutes to complete and provide direction on which executive functioning exercises might be most valuable based on responses provided about current behavior.
